Repair Shops: Fix Your Cooling Before the Summer Heat Sets In!

Right as the spring has reached its fullest and summer is just around the corner, auto repair shops around the country tend to see an increase in the number of people looking to have their air conditioning repaired.

After a car’s air conditioning has been left in the “off” position for months on end, as is often the case in winter, any of several problems may very well have developed. The owner may attempt to turn on the A/C and discover that is simply won’t run. He or she may find that air is in fact blowing, but it refuses to cool down. Even if everything works properly, it is also possible that the air being pushed through the car’s ventilation has a slightly sickening odor to it.

A car’s A/C not running at all can have several causes. The A/C motor may be not functioning properly, for example. Repair shops see many cases such as this in summertime, so if you find yourself in this situation, don’t delay; get your car in before the summer heat is really turned up.

When the air blows through the A/C vents, but is the same temperature or even warmer than the surrounding air, your problem could be low refrigerant (Freon). If you notice a smell coming out of your ventilation system after a prolonged period of inactivity in the A/C, your car could have a building up of fungus or bacteria. A good cleaning will usually take care of this, but it can be difficult to get into the vents from where the smell originates.
