Here at Kevin’s Car Repair & Body Shop LLC, we want to help you keep your car in the best possible condition. After all, you depend on your car to go about your daily routine, so it’s important to keep it in good working order. When it comes to maintaining your vehicle, one of the most important parts to take care of is the brakes, as they are critical to keeping you safe on the road. In this article, our team will go over three signs that you need brake repair so that you can recognize problems early and get them taken care of as soon as possible.

3 Signs Your Car Needs Brake Repair

  1. Squealing or Grinding Sounds- One sign that you need brake repair can be found in the sounds that your brakes make. If you hear a metallic squealing sound while your car is moving, it usually means that your brake pads are wearing out, causing the steel indicators to make contact with the rotor and cause that high-pitched sound. On the other hand, if you hear a grinding sound when you apply the brakes, it could mean that your pads have worn through and need to be replaced.
  2. “Spongy” Pedal- Another sign that you need brake repair is a change in the level of resistance you feel as you apply the brakes. Specifically, if the pedal starts to feel “spongy” or noticeably softer and less resistant as you press it, or if it sinks all the way to the floor of the car, then you most likely need repair.
  3. Pulling to One Side- A third sign that you need brake repair is your car pulling to one side as you brake. This could be the result of a difference in pressure between the brake calipers on one wheel vs. the other, and we encourage you to reach out to our team if you find yourself dealing with this problem to get it taken care of.
