Extreme temperatures pose a multitude of risks for our cars, and winter weather can be particularly challenging.
In order to prepare for the cold, here are three vehicle winterization steps you can take to make sure your car has the best chance at keeping you comfortable and safe this year:
- Lubricate your door locks. In winter, your car will be getting hit with all kinds of moisture, whether it’s rain or snow. If this moisture gets into the cracks in the entrances to your car like the door or truck locks, then you may end up locked out of your own car. To avoid this, you can use silicone sprays or specially made door lock lubricants as part of your vehicle winterization process.
- Make sure your tires are ready for the weather. If your neighborhood experiences milder winters, then you may only need to fill your tires to counteract the deflating effect that colder weather has. If you anticipate encountering freezing temperatures and black ice, then you should probably replace your tires altogether for ones that are specifically made to deal with winter weather.
- Get some rubber floor mats. You will likely track moisture into your car during the winter months. This moisture can leak into the floor, potentially leading to rusting of the lower parts of your car in the long run.
These are some steps you can take at home, but there are other vehicle winterization steps that are easier to complete with the benefit of an auto body shop. We here at Kevin’s Car Repair & Body Shop LLC are happy to provide the Westerville, Ohio area with winterization services to make sure each step is handled properly so that you can feel confident and safe during the colder months.
